Hackathon vs COVID-19
On February 10-12, Web2Learn and a group of HE staff and students participated remotely in the CitizensHack 2022 hackathon organised by Ultrahack and the European Commission.
The hackathon was designed to increase the participation of citizens to contribute to their own life and neighbourhood, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences to European societies. Web2Learn mobilised 16 participants that were separated in three groups and submitted one Challenge each.
In particular, one group led by Mariana Ziku submitted the Challenge “Playful ways in engaging with art during the pandemic”. This challenge was about inspirational ways museums can engage online visitors in fun and creative activities, motivated by some museum initiatives that engage citizens from their homes and use out-of-the box thinking.
The second group led by Stefania Oikonomou submitted a Challenge entitled “Small museums under pressure: covid-19 and the next day”. This challenge aimed to engage researchers and citizens to identify solutions for museums with limited resources to overcome pandemic related obstacles.
The third group led by Katerina Zourou submitted a Challenge on “Ghost nets: collection and re- and upcycling in remote coastal regions”. This challenge was about solutions allowing on the one hand small communities actively engage in this process and on the other hand innovation teams working on the re-use of ghost nets to connect with these small communities and facilitate the transition towards sustainable practices.
