Training: Datathons, hackathons and digital hacktivism
In early March, the UP team organised a training and hackathon in collaboration with CorrelAid, a non-partisan non-profit network of data science enthusiasts who want to change the world through data science.
It was organised during “Open Data Day”, an annual celebration of open data in which groups from around the world create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities, and therefore the aim of the event was to use public data from the city of Paris to co-design ways to improve it.
Under the slogan “Paris in Numbers”, this event was especially aimed at students with no prior experience in data analysis, in order to provide them with training and support in using data for community challenges.
The results of this event ended up inspiring a new urban development plan from the city of Paris, aiming at increasing the number and optimising the location of bicycle parking spots in the city. It was, therefore, a huge success both in terms of outputs and in terms of outcomes!
